Christopher Knowles

Director

Chris joined the SEIT Board of Directors in December 2018.

He has over 40 years’ experience in projects, infrastructure, and environmental finance and economics.

Chris spent the majority of his career at the European Investment Bank (EIB), where he headed the infrastructure and environmental investment funds business from 2005 to 2017, with pan-European responsibility for equity funds covering infrastructure, clean energy, energy efficiency, carbon finance, natural capital, and structured finance.

Between 2000 and 2005, he led EIB’s lending operations team for transport and infrastructure in Spain, overseeing €4–5 billion in annual financing, much of it in public-private partnership form.

During the 1990s, he held similar roles across Central Europe, Finland, and Greece, and in the 1980s, he worked in Africa and the Caribbean.

Before joining the EIB, Chris worked for the Lesotho National Development Corporation, the European Commission, and Lazard Brothers.

He also serves as a non-executive director on several private equity and debt funds focused on ESG and impact investing in Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia.

He is a member of advisory bodies including the Climate Bond Initiative and the OECD Centre for Green Finance & Investment.

Chris holds degrees in Economics and Management from the University of Durham.
